KTA 5: Pre production planning documents- What are they used for?
- proposals/treatments/project outlines- what are they for/ do?
Pitching ideas to employers and work colleagues. an outline of what is going to be made based off of what the client wants or the purpose audience. e.g. all media production needs to include a proposal.
- production schedule (work plan)
Is a simple break down of scenes, talent, time, cast, company and moves and day breaks, activities, tasks, dates in a timeline includes personnel and deadlines.
- SWOT analysis
(strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) ensuring the success of a product. shows client you have thought about benefits and any problems that arise, as well as any competitors.
- asset log
a personal record of the companies assets, as well as making sure that financial information is up to date. e.g. any logos, footage needed, any copyright things needed, also tells us where we are getting these from e.g. footage being from home and a logo being from school.
- call sheet
has contact information for everyone that is involved. Has the schedule for the day which scenes and script pages are being shot and the address of the shoots location. can figure out times, places.
- risk assessment (recces)
Is a way to identify hazards and risk factors that have the potential to cause harm on a particular shoot or a specific location so that the production company producer can decide whether adequate control measures are in place to prevent them. e.g. wires are hidden. Goes from low risk to medium risk to high risk, and what is going to be put in place to minimise those risks.
- storyboard
Is a planning document. It is created for the final product is developed and used to illustrate a story to show change of scene. e.g. used in movies, videos, as well as games creations, animation, vlogs and promo adverts. Orders of a visual audio product as well how long each shot type is, and the shot type, the camera movement, any key sound (annotations), editing from shot to shot, and clearly outlines the actors and where they are involved.
- script
the script is an outline of the story that the director, producers, actors can build on to create the writers vision. this would be used in e.g. movies, or anything that includes speech inside. e.g. film, TV, animation, podcast, radio, video games, advertisements.
- shooting script
order of types of shots that are happening alongside the script and storyboard. has all recording details.
- concept art
characterisation, developing characters, or what they look like. e.g. logos, apps, games, advertisements.
- visualisation diagram
Draft of a poster or advertising, can also be for front covers. include samples of colours. identify color scheme, house style, logos, position of images, font styles and types of images. e.g. poster, have to justify why things are the way they are and why we have chosen it against the brief.
- flat plan/ wireframe
For a website or app, they have image boxes with a cross in. and then text boxes. they explain what navigation will be included , as well as the font, house style. this also needs its justification e.g. anything interactive, apps, VR.
- prototype
Basic version of product to show how it works, its an early working version. Generally for products that are more interactive e.g. games, websites, videos.
- page mock-up
Like a visualisation diagram, but is specific to magazines (print based products) and leaflets. so will include a lot of images, and captions and where they will go. Everything needs to be justified.
- set design
planning of props and actors, and producers and where they will be e.g. video games, films, TV, news programmes, documentaries,
- form (i.e. consent, release)
Permission forms, and is there is anyone featured, actors, interviews.
- site structure diagram
